A woman rests in a space that feels both intimate and unknown. Through the window, the sea stretches endlessly; beside her, vivid gemstones and symbolic objects hold stories of travel, transformation, and self-discovery.
This painting explores the act of travel from both an inner and outer perspective, through time, geography, and experience. How these layers shape us introspectively into who we are today.
Maya lies in her bedsheets, surrounded by objects gathered along the way—jewellery, a journal marked with a violet symbol of spring, and a bay leaf, which in Italy represents good luck and abundance.Beyond the window, the endless sea reflects the path of life, open and ever-unfolding. Behind her, the bird of paradise flower (Strelitzia reginae) evokes freedom, transformation, and the pursuit of a fuller, more expansive self.
